DATES CHANGED! The 2010 Arab World Social Innovation Forum (AWSIF) will now be held May 14-15 at the Cairo Marriott Hotel. It promises to serve as an occasion for innovative leaders and decision-makers from the private sector, civil society, and international institutions around the globe to advance social innovation in the region and catalyze action. The Forum will leverage Ashoka’s longstanding support and pioneering of social entrepreneurship to connect guests to the latest high-impact social initiatives and partnerships, making the event a reference for social innovation and change in the Arab World. In addition, proceeds will help select 5 new Arab World Fellows, providing them with world-class fellowship services and access to our network.
Currently, some of our distinguished guests include Hani Masri, Dalia Mogahed, Fadi Ghandour, Naseer Shamma, Peder Wallenberg, and Naguib Sawiris, with invited guest of honor including: James Wolfensohn, Carlos Slim, George Clooney, Mohammed Yunus, Zahi Hawass, and Her Majesty Queen Noor.
In addition to keynote speeches and panelists of experts from various fields, the Forum will feature the induction of 10 new Ashoka Arab World Fellows (bottom of webpage) – the next line of system-changing social sector leaders, the launch of several innovative projects in the Arab World, and three round table discussions on the second day: 1) Activating Social Investment through Private-Social Partnerships; 2) Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship; 3) Market-based Solutions for Development. The discourse from these round tables will be recorded into a set of concrete recommendations for publishing and dissemination to both regional and international media outlets.
AWSIF will also be covered by international media outlets, which will serve to achieve its goal of advancing social entrepreneurship, innovation, and change in the Arab World.
That’s all for now, but we will be updating the blog regularly with more information and topics for discussion!
