Help Autistic Children Reach Full Potential through Child Care, Administrative Support, and Staff Training

Great volunteer opportunities with Ashoka Fellow Maha Helali’s ADVANCE!

ADVANCE has three outreach volunteer openings lasting from 3 months to one year for any time during the year. They are looking for mature volunteers between the ages of 23 and 50 with physiotherapy, occupational or speech therapy, or teaching experience. The four positions are:

  • Childcare: This volunteer will receive teacher assistant’s training. In addition to helping provide basic care, the volunteer will provide activities to stimulate children with special needs. They will serve as teacher aides in the classroom and will supervise children during lunch and recess periods.
  • Administrative Assistant: This volunteer will provide administrators and teachers with administrative support such as word processing, writing and disseminating newsletters, flyers and brochures.
  • Staff Training: This volunteer must have professional experience in the field of serving children with special needs, particularly those with autism or related disorders. They will develop teaching and training materials and work with teachers on the practical skills necessary to meet the specific needs of the children. Or they could provide capacity building training in areas such as time management, conflict resolution, etc.

ADVANCE is based in the quiet Maadi District in Cairo and volunteers would be housed nearby in the home of an Egyptian family or with other outreach volunteers. Applicants should send a written application with letters of reference, and will be interviewed by phone if a personal interview is not possible.

Required Skills and Experience:

These positions require working between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday (children attend only on weekdays). English is required and Arabic is a huge plus.

During the summer, volunteers may then join the children for their summer camp by the sea side!

Description of Volunteer Opportunity

Ola is looking for a volunteer who could serve as a personal assistant to the Chairwoman of Stars of Hope Society.  She is a person with physical disabilities who needs someone to accompany her on regional and international travel and who could be involved in trainings and conferences.

The volunteer will get the chance to develop capacities in the fields of management and disability issues, especially as they apply to women.  They would be based in Palestine but would also travel to different regions at least three times a year.
