Women Powering Work: Innovations for Economic Equality Online Competition!

The online competition Women Powering Work: Innovations for Economic Equality, launched by General Electric and Ashoka Changemakers, that seeks innovative solutions that will advance economic opportunities for women in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and Pakistan, is approaching its entry deadline of November 6, 2013.

The competition is calling for initiatives that enable women to achieve economic equality, strengthen their families and communities, and benefit equitably from economic growth. The judges will pick three winning entries which will be awarded US $25,000 in unrestricted funding each.

As the competition is focused on the MENA region, Ashoka Arab World is happy to spread the word and we call on any individuals, organizations or partnerships that aim to improve economic equality for women in the MENA region to enter the competition or for people to nominate any relevant initiatives. Entries will be assessed on the following criteria: Innovation; Social Impact; Sustainability.

Please hurry though, as the deadline for entries is approaching fast; the entry form must be completed in its entirety and submitted by 6 p.m. EST on Wednesday November 6, 2013.

The Women Innovation Forum (WIF) is the first comprehensive venture that molds female social and business entrepreneurs with the space, the time, the networks and the skills needed to start, accelerate and scale their ventures.

Ashoka Arab World is seeking a WIF intern to: Help us identify and engage supporters for our women initiative. Lead the fundraising process to engage foundations and corporations by writing proposals, letters of interest and reports, meeting prospects and closing deals. Conduct research and analysis on the market trends and needs of social and business entrepreneurship in Egypt.

Changemakers Competition: Sustainable Urban Housing COLLABORATING FOR LIVEABLE AND INCLUSIVE CITIES


Ashoka’s Changemakers is looking for innovative solutions that engage communities, entrepreneurs, and key institutions in collaborating to integrate and develop affordable, inclusive, and sustainable urban housing that respects the environment, local cultures, and practices.

This competition is being launched in anticipation of the 2012 Summit of the Americas, and in support of U.S. President Barack Obama’s Energy and Climate Partnership for the Americas (ECPA). It is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, and is a joint effort of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of State, and the American Planning Association.

Submit your solutions, or nominate a project, in this competition to collaborate on sustainable urban housing for liveable and inclusive cities.

From November 5 through February 2, 2011, you can nominate or submit a solution for sustainable urban housing. The entry form is also available for download.

Early Entry Prize: The two best entries submitted by 5PM EST, December 12, 2010 will each be eligible to win a prize of US $500.

Online Winners Prizes: The top three entries submitted by 5pm EST, February 2, 2011 will win US $10,000 each.

The most competitive entrants will be showcased and reviewed at an event that closes the competition in June 2011 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. where they will be viewed by public and private partners, including prospective funders.
